sfuggono solo alcuni sussurri [ e grida] .Nausicaaa.Net aveva

June 4, 2007 Ghibli Diary, "Ponyo" News, New Takahata Film

GhibliWorld posted a slew of translated entries from the studio's web diary.

Studio Ghibli President (and producer) Toshio Suzuki appeared on the NTV
program Getsuyoru! and talked about Ponyo:

Suzuki: When a film becomes black [covers its costs, profitable] I convey
the message to Takahata-san and Miyazaki-san. They are pleased. However,
Miya-san said suddenly the other day in a meeting, "Suzuki-san, I do not let
you collect the production costs [of Ponyo]."
Q: What does it mean?
Suzuki: He said, "A film that collects its production costs is second-class.
My previous films are included in this category. So, I do not make this film
in the black." Since I was angry, I said to him, "I will surely collect it!"
(laugh)

As with all previous Miyazaki feature films, Joe Hisaishi is composing the
soundtrack. He said, "Gake no ue no Ponyo, it's great imagination,
unbelievable 64 years old's imagination. I'm full of fight."
According to the production diary of May 14, a very cute sample of a sound
track of Ponyo is completed.

Suzuki also announced that he is working on a Takahata film:
Suzuki: Takahata-san has not made a film for a long time, because there are
not many animators who can realize his idea. I intend to try it.
Q: This is first time that you've mention it? Suzuki: Yes, I did not talk
about it anywhere.

Thanks to Peter van der Lugt and T. Ishikawa for the news.
